Je vois vraiment cet album comme une affirmation : il n'y a pas eu de compromis dans l'écriture, il n'y a aujourd'hui pas de compromis dans le son. Inutile de préciser que cela me ravit.
We're done with the mixes !
I really see this album as an assertion : there was no compromise during the writing, as there is no compromise in the sound today. Least to say that pleases me.

Cette semaine, j'enregistre deux trompettes avec Jean-Christophe Cassagne, et les choeurs de Laureline, tout ça à Poptones, avec moi-même aux manettes.Je retourne à bristol à la fin du mois pour assister au mixage de l'album. TJ Allen sera à la console et Adrian Utley dirigera les opérations. Cela va probablement être une semaine très intense : reste 9 titres à mixer (plus des corrections à faire sur le morceau déjà mixé) en 8 jours, mais c'est très excitant.
Je posterai une ou deux vidéos ici.

This week I am recording two trumpets by Jean-Christophe Cassagne, and the backing vocals by Laureline, all of which will be done at Poptones, recorded by myself.
I will be back in Bristol at the end of the month for the album's mixing. TJ Allen will be at the desk and Adrian Utley will produce. It's probably going to be an intense week : 9 songs to mix (plus tweaks on the song that we did last time) in 8 days, but it's very exciting.
I wil post a couple of videos here.

Du coup, nous allons mixer un titre demain, ce qui nous permettra de juger si on peut mixer tout l'album chez Adrian ou pas. J'avoue être un peu sonné par la fin des enregistrements, rincé. Je suis très heureux avec tout ce que nous avons fait, et j'ai hate d'être au mix, qui devrait avoir lieu fin avril au plus tard.
Today we finished all the recordings for the album - as incredible as it seems, we're one day ahead of schedule ! We will mix one song tomorrow so we'll know if it seems possible to mix the whole album at Adrian's. I am a little stunned by this album being all recorded now, and I'm excited about the mix which should take place late april at the latest.

Du coup nous allons commencer à préparer les mixs. Les journées passent vite et sont très excitantes : nous ajoutons quelques guitares et beaucoup de synthétiseurs. Je crois que ce sera l'album que j'ai toujours voulu faire... Ci-dessous un montage vidéo de ces premiers jours.
Sessions are going on very well, we are quickly moving on and will probably be done tomorrow evening. We will then start preparing the mixes. Days are passing really quickly and are very exciting : we are adding some guitars and a good load of synths. This is starting to sound like the album I've always wanted to do... Hereafter is a video of these first days.
]]><![CDATA[Bristol]]>Mon, 05 Mar 2012 16:17:29 -0800http://www.versari.org/1/post/2012/03/bristol.htmlJe suis arrivé hier soir à Bristol pour enregistrer les derniers éléments de notre album avec Adrian Utley. Après une courte nuit nous avons commencé à travailler ce matin sur "Non Retour", un morceau qui me semble facile pour aborder les premières prises de chant. J'en profite pour ajouter une nouvelle guitare, et Adrian ajoute un synthé sur l'instru de fin. À l'écoute, ça me saute aux oreilles : nous commençons vraiment le travail de son de l'album maintenant. Nous travaillons avec Tim qui est ingénieur du son et participe souvent aux projets d'Adrian. Je suis tellement content de là où nous en sommes avec ce titre, je n'en reviens pas...
Puis nous attaquons "Nous étions", qui s'avère plus difficile pour la voix - la haueur du morceau me fait chanter dans une tonalité qui a du mal à percer la musique. Nous changeons plusieurs fois de micros, pour finir par en utiliser deux en parallèle - et mettre les deux prises dans le mix. Avec Cyril et Laureline nous voulions un son spécial pour ce titre, froid et un peu dur, nous sommes résolument sur la bonne voie. J'ajoute une guitare sur le titre et nous passons à un nouveau morceau, un chant du soir : "Houdini". Je couche la voix en deux prises et il est temps d'aller dormir.
I got to Bristol yesterday evening to record the last tracks for our album with Adrian Utley. After a short night we started working on "Non retour", as this song sounded easy for a starter on vocals. I also add a new guitar, and Adrian adds a synth. While listening to it strikes me : we are now starting to work on the album's sound. We are currently working with Tim who has been sound engineering a lot of Adrian's projects. I can't believe how happy I am withthis song...
Then we start working on "Nous étions" that turns out to be more difficult for vocals - the height of the song gets my voice in an area where it's hard to make it stick out of the music. We change microphones and end up using two of them, and putting them both in the mix, in stereo. With Laureline and Cyril we wanted to have a special sound for that song, something cold and harsh, and we are definitely on the right track. I add a new guitar and we switch to a new song, a night one : "Houdini". I get done with this vocal take in two shots and it's time to go to sleep.
